A few thousand species of ants have been identified on planet earth. Ants are social insects and are dominated by the female sex, as males take no part in the activities of the colony. Each nest consists of a queen or two and many wingless workers.

After a short nuptial flight, the queen will find a suitable place to nest. Once she has shed her wings, she will start to lay eggs. Queen ants can lay many thousands of eggs per day. The worker ants will tend the queen, go out in search of food and move the eggs and place them in piles in various chambers of the nest. Male ants usually seek females to mate with in other nests, or mate with their own sisters in the same nest.

Management

To treat the pest infestation effectively, the entire interior of the home or building is sprayed. We use BioKill Insecticide which is extremely effective against ants. The product is applied directly onto all indoor surfaces. You are not required to unpack any cupboards or vacate the premises during treatment. Do not wash the treated areas after the treatment. BioKill is odourless, non-staining, bio-degradable and not harmful to humans and animals. Combined with the spray, gel spots are placed along windowsills, inside kitchen cupboards and in bathrooms. The gel is ingested by the worker ants and carried back to the nest, where the gel is fed to the queen and other ants in the nest. All ants in the nest normally die within a few days of the treatment. To treat the outdoor ant activity, either granule bait is scattered along the perimeter of the building, or a product that is specially formulated for outdoor use is sprayed along the perimeter of the building and around window and doorframes.

Depending on the severity of the infestation, many dying or dead insects may be evident for a few days after the treatment. Should the infestation found to be severe, a follow-up treatment may be required within 4 to 6 weeks, and then twice or three times a year thereafter.
